Favorite Lipsticks for Spring- 2015

IMG_1376

L to R: Kat Von D- Bauhau5, MAC- Impassioned, Dose of Colors-Kiss of Fire, MUFE- 39, Sephora Collection- African Violet

After digging through my lipsticks I have compiled a handful I think would be perfect for spring. Don’t get me wrong I am a firm believer of wearing whatever I want whenever I want, but these are just colors I tend to go for this time of the year.

IMG_1451

Kat Von D- Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5 ($20)

This color is described as a “deep raspberry.” It’s very bright so it’s a perfect winter to spring transition color. I would recommend wearing a liner for an even application.

IMG_1422

MAC Cosmetics- Impassioned  ($16)

This is a perfect pinky-coral color!

worst swatch ever -__-

Dose of Colors- Kiss of Fire ($18)

I love this color because of how bright it is. My favorite red lipsticks are ones with a pink tint to them.

IMG_1423

Make Up For Ever- Rouge Artist Intense in # 39 ($20)

This is my favorite peach lipstick. I also have MAC’s Ravishing but I prefer this one.

IMG_1424

Sephora Collection- Cream Lip Stain in African Violet

I LOVE this color. It’s perfect. You need it. Go get it! You can check out my post on it here.

There are a lot more lipsticks I could have chosen but I wanted to pick basic colors you would wear for spring, coral, peach, violet, etc. Like I said before you can wear these colors anytime of the year. I just wanted to give you some ideas for new lipsticks. I hope this helped!

Happy Friday! I will be heading to Cancun for a much needed vacation. 🙂

Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Collection & Swatches

I have compiled a pretty good collection of Makeup Geek eyeshadows.  To be honest I’m not really that much of an eyeshadow person. I do go through phases of obsessing with a particular eyeshadow. Right now its Satin Taupe by MAC. But normally on a day to day basis I just wear mascara. Don’t get me wrong I love doing eyeshadow looks but I prefer to do them for special events or a night out.

FullSizeRender-5

Makeup Geek was founded by an amazing Youtuber, Marlena. They offer products like eyeshadows, blushes, and brushes. I own 23 eyeshadows, six of them are the foiled eyeshadows. Almost all of the eyeshadows I have are neutral colors. These eyeshadows are awesome. They are creamy, easy to blend, and the pigmentation is great. The regular eyeshadows are $6 each and the foiled eyeshadows are $10. You do have to pay for shipping but it’s super affordable (less than $5). The only negative is having to purchase a Z-palette (if you don’t already have one) because the eyeshadows are sold in individual pans. I purchased my Z-palette at Sephora during last year’s VIB sale. The larger size is $28 and the smaller size is $18. Makeup Geek also sells a variety of Z-palettes. Check them out here.

Enjoy the swatches!

IMG_1118Some of my favorites are Burlesque, Bitten, Gold Digger, Peach Smoothie, Chickadee, and Cocoa Bear. Even though I love Bitten, I do find it a bit chalky. I personally think it’s really hard to find perfect matte eyeshadows. That is why BLENDING is always crucial. My favorite matte eyeshadows are from Urban Decay and I’m dying to try Make Up For Ever Artist Eyeshadows.  I LOVE all of the foiled eyeshadows! I cannot get over how amazing the pigmentation is. I totally recommend checking those out!

MOTD- Cinderella Collection

IMG_1064-1Thanks to my wonderful husband I own the majority of the MAC Cinderella collection. I sent him to the mall to pick up the beauty powder and the glitter the day they came out in store. He ended up coming  home with those two items, the eyeshadow palette, both lip glosses, and both lipsticks. I didn’t want to do a full on review since it’s not available and so many people missed out getting anything.

IMG_1065-1

DiorSkin Nude Air Foundation, MAC- Pro Longwear Concealer, Nars-Madly Blush, Kat Von D-Shade & Light Palette, ABH Brow Wiz

I absolutely love the eyeshadow palette. MAC did a wonderful job creating it. Today I used three of the colors, Omega (crease), Satin Taupe (lid), and Phloof (inner corner). My favorite eyeshadow in this palette is Satin Taupe. The good news is that all of the colors are permanent except for Stroke of Midnight (darkest one). Omega is also a great color, it’s perfect for the crease!

I have the Mystery Princess Beauty Powder. It’s described as a “pink beige with silver shimmers.” It has a very subtle shimmer and gives a nice light glow.

I lightly lined my lips with Whirl lip pencil. I then applied Free as a Butterfly lipstick and topped it off with the lipglass in Glass Slipper. The lipstick is a sheer nude, nothing special to be honest. I’m not really a lipgloss kind of gal but these lipglasses are beautiful. Glass slipper is a very light pink with silver and pink shimmers. I have yet to swatch the other lipstick or lipglass. I could possibly include them in a shade of the day!

Here’s a little casual OOTD as well!

Sephora Wish List- April 2015

Word on the street is the Sephora VIB Spring Sale is near. According to @trendmood1 on instagram the sale dates are 4/16-4/20 (4/12-4/21 for VIB Rouge). Depending on your VIB status, the discount will either be ten or fifteen percent off. I wasn’t able to find the sale info anywhere else so we’ll see if it’s true! I created a wish list of things I need to repurchase and a few things I want to try out. I always like to take advantage and purchase more expensive products like skin care, foundation, or perfume. Sephora only has sales a couple times a year so it is definitely worth making some purchases. Hopefully this gives you some ideas as well!

fresh

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Cream

This is my favorite moisturizer. I purchased this one during the VIB sale last November. I ran out about a month ago so it’s time to repurchase.

hourglassdim

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light

I own the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette which includes Dim Light. Out of all three colors this is the one I use the most. I love using this to set my concealer. It’s very lightweight and not shimmery at all but there is something about it that makes my face look flawless. Dim Light is described as a “neutral peach beige powder.” These are pretty pricey at $45 so I would personally only buy it at a discounted price.

primer water

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

This is a product I am very curious to try out. I love using my UD All Nighter setting spray as primer so this totally makes sense to me. It has great reviews online. I will definitely be purchasing this item!

mj eyeliner

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon

It’s time to repurchase my favorite eyeliner. This is the only pencil that actually stays on my waterline. I highly recommend trying this guy out!

naked concealer

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

That is the longest name ever… Any who, I have been using the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ever since it came out. I am almost out of my third one so I am thinking about trying this one. I love the NARS because I can use it for everyday or build it up for more coverage. This one claims to do the same thing so we’ll just have to see about that!

greta

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Greta

I love these lipsticks. This color looks beautiful. It’s perfect for spring and summer. That is all!

mjvibrouge

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in So Rouge

Do I really need another red lipstick? Maybe? Do I need a limited edition Marc Jacobs lipstick in beautiful red packaging? DUH! (Do you like how I did that?) I do not own any Marc Jacobs lipsticks so this may just be my first one. These lipsticks have wonderful reviews so I am actually really excited to try this out. This lipstick is sadly only available to VIB Rouge but there are 20 shades available in the regular collection.

Well that concludes my wish list. For now anyway… I hope I have given you some ideas. My advice is to take advantage and purchase the more expensive items you have been wanting to try out. If you are looking for a new foundation, right now would be a great time to get some samples. You have enough time before the sale starts to find one you like.

Let me know what’s on your wish list or any items you think I should try out! Check out @Trendmood1 on Instagram for the latest beauty releases!

Happy Friday!

Sephora Haul

IMG_1324 2

Welcome to my monthly Sephora haul… Sephora was very kind enough to send me a 10% off coupon (to help reach my VIB Rouge for next year) so of course I had to buy something. I also had some credit from returning stuff.

At the beginning of the month I got a couple of samples of the DiorSkin Nude Air Foundation and I really fell in love with it.  I have been using these samples almost everyday and I still have half of one left. This foundation is very lightweight. I’d say its light to medium coverage, so it’s perfect for everyday. It is a serum type formula so if you have super oily skin I wouldn’t recommend. This will be my go-to summer foundation (SPF 25). I am in the shade 030 Medium Beige.

IMG_0808

Marvelous Mauve , Dior Nude Air Foundation

I mentioned in my African Violet Shade of the Day post that I really liked the Sephora cream stains. I bought Marvelous Mauve and of course I love it!

My skin has been breaking out lately so I decided to buy a couple of the Sephora Collection masks. These are $6 for a one-time use. I’ve already used the Rose mask. At first I was a little weirded out because it’s a mask you actually put over your face. It felt very cool and relaxing. After I took the mask off, I gently massaged my face. My face felt a little sticky but it was fine because I was going to sleep anyway. When I woke up in the morning my face felt very soft and fresh. Six dollars for one is a little pricey to me, so I probably won’t repurchase one for a while.

IMG_1326

Okay, I saved the BEST for last. I am a sucker for bronzers and highlights. I picked up the Make Up For Ever Pro-Sculpting Duo in the shade number 2. Once I saw this highlight, it was over… I had to get it! There’s nothing I love more than a sun-kissed glow in the summer time. The contour part is more of a bronzer due to the orange undertone. But the highlight is gorgeous!

Can you tell I’m ready for Summer?!

Shade of the Day- Dragon Girl

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend so far. I was finally able to relax and get some much needed sleep. I dragged my husband to the movies today to watch Cinderella. Best movie ever!!! I didn’t have much time to get ready this morning so I did a simple look with a pop of color (my go-to look).

IMG_0772

Today is a very special shade of the day because it features my FAVORITE lipstick of all time! Every time I can’t decide on a lipstick to wear I ALWAYS reach for this one. It’s the perfect shade of red with a tint of pink and a blue undertone.

nars dragon

The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are one of my favorite lipsticks. They are very easy to apply, perfect when you’re on the go. The only negative is having to sharpen them. Dragon Girl is my favorite color but I also recommend Damned, Mysterious Red, and Train Bleu.

Beauty Products Worth the Splurge

Walking into a Sephora or department store can be pretty intimidating. Finding the right products can be difficult and expensive when you shop at those places. I have compiled a list of products I think are worth splurging on. As well as a list of products I think you could pass on and save your money.

Estee

Foundation

This is the number one product I’d say is worth splurging on. Everyone has different skin types and issues. When you go to a department store you can easily be color matched and get a quick consultation from an expert. Foundations can be expensive so I would suggest getting samples. Get samples of multiple foundations, try them out for a week, and purchase the one you like. Don’t give up on searching for the right foundation, it’s out there! Just keep getting samples! Some of my favorite foundations are Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation, NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, and Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua.

narsconcealConcealer

There are some good concealers at the drugstore (Maybelline Fit Me or Age Rewind), but I don’t think there are any long-lasting full coverage concealers. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and MAC Pro Longwear Concealer have been my favorites for years. If you are not looking for full coverage then save your money and try out the ones mentioned or the NYX HD Concealer.

tartebronzerBronzer

I chose bronzer because this product alone can give you a nice color and glow. Pricier bronzers tend to blend easier and last longer. There are also a lot more shades to choose from. I’d recommend getting a matte bronzer and purchasing a more affordable blush. Physicians Formula has amazing highlighting powders. You could also use a shimmery nude eyeshadow for highlight. A good all in one bronzer is Tarte Park Ave Princess and a good matte bronzer is Too Faced Chocolate Soleil.

udSetting Spray

If you don’t have issues with pores I would recommend a setting spray instead of a primer. My favorite is the Urban Decay All Nighter. If you spray this on your face before and after applying makeup, your makeup will last for HOURS! There is a smaller size available for $14, so it won’t break the bank too much.

freshMoisturizers

I recommend splurging on moisturizers for the same reason as foundations, everyone has different skin concerns. Again, go to Sephora or a department store for a mini consultation (and get samples). My favorite is the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Cream.

UDPP

Primer

If you have oily eyelids, I’d recommend an eyeshadow primer for sure (UD Primer Potion). Foundation primers really depend on your personal preference. It does make your makeup last longer but I wouldn’t say its necessary. However, I would recommend it if you want to minimize the appearance of pores. Primers do a great job of smoothing out the skin. Some of my favorites include Benefit POREfessional, Hourglass Veil Mineral, Smashbox Photo Finish, and Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer (for dry skin). Don’t forget you could also get samples for these guys too!

kat

Lipstick

This one depends on you. If you prefer a long-lasting lipstick then I would splurge a little. Drugstores have tons of colorful options if you aren’t concerned with longevity. Some of my favorites include NARS Velvet Lip Pencils, NARS Audacious, and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks.

Products you could save money on:

  1. Powder

With a good foundation almost any powder would work. If you have dry skin like me then you don’t even need powder. Some of the powders I’ve tried and liked are Rimmel Stay Matte and Nutrogena Mineral Sheers.

  2. Mascara

Drugstores have awesome mascaras! L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black has always been a favorite. However, I would recommend purchasing Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara ($10) to avoid looking like a raccoon at the end of the day. For the longest time I never knew why I would have black marks all over my under-eye area, then I realized it was my mascara! That’s when I began purchasing more expensive ones (Buxom Lash & Dior Iconic Overcurl).

  3. Eyeliner

With a good eyeshadow primer you can pretty much use any eyeliner. If you have hooded eyes like me then you are outta luck. A lot of the affordable liquid liners do not dry fast enough for me. My favorite one is the Maybelline Gel Liner. Favorite more expensive eyeliners include Kat Von D tattoo Liner, Stila stay all day, and MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack.

  4. Eyeshadow

Save your money when it comes to eyeshadows. My  favorite eyeshadows are currently from Makeup Geek, they are really affordable ($6) and very pigmented. Investing in a Naked Palette is also a good idea. You get twelve eyeshadows for $54 which may seem pricey, but technically you end up paying $4.50 for each eyeshadow.

  5. Brushes

Brushes are a whole other topic but most of mine come from more affordable brands. My favorites are from Real Techniques and Sigma Beauty. You can often find Real Techniques BOGO 50% off at Ulta.

So there you have it, my honest thoughts on where to splurge and where to save.

A couple of tips to remember:
  • GET SAMPLES! Beauty products are expensive. Don’t spend the money unless you are sure you love the product.
  • Always keep receipts and packaging. I have a bag under my vanity dedicated to receipts and boxes. Places like Ulta, Sephora, and most department stores have great return policies. Sooooo… if you don’t LOVE it RETURN it!

I hope you have found this helpful! Let me know what your favorite products to splurge on are.

Happy Thursday!
